The hit manga 'Sakamoto Days' is leaping into live-action. Following the streaming success of Netflix's anime adaptation—which wraps up its first season this week—Shueisha has confirmed that a feature-length live-action film will debut during Japan's Golden Week in 2026.
The upcoming movie was revealed in Weekly Shonen Jump, with Toho releasing a teaser visual that offered fans a first glimpse of what Taro Sakamoto might look like in the flesh. While the cast has not yet been announced, excitement around the project is already building. Series creator Yuto Suzuki took to social media to share gratitude for fan support and expressed that bringing the world of 'Sakamoto Days' into live action has been a dream of his since childhood.

At this stage, it's unclear whether the live-action adaptation will premiere internationally or receive an English dub.
What Is 'Sakamoto Days' About?
The story follows Taro Sakamoto, once the most feared assassin in Japan, who traded in his deadly career for a quiet life running a convenience store with his wife and daughter. Five years into retirement, a massive ¥1 billion bounty is placed on his head, forcing him back into action. The twist? Sakamoto is determined to uphold his wife's strict "no-kill" rule, making every battle a test of creativity, restraint, and survival.
The 'Sakamoto Days' manga, first published in 2020, quickly gained a passionate following thanks to its mix of high-stakes action and heartwarming humour. Netflix's anime adaptation, which premiered in January 2025, introduced the story to a global audience.

The English dub features Matthew Mercer as Sakamoto, along with Dallas Liu, Rosalie Chiang, Grace Lu, Rosie Okumura, Aleks Le, Vinnie Hacker, and Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña. Season 1 of ‘Sakamoto Days’ spans 22 episodes, with the finale airing tomorrow. While fans are eagerly awaiting word on Season 2, no announcement has been made yet.
With a Golden Week 2026 release date on the calendar, the 'Sakamoto Days' live-action film is set to bring one of Shonen Jump's most popular modern titles to theatres. Until then, audiences can catch up on Season 1 of the anime, now streaming on Netflix.
