Filmmaker Zach Cregger is growing the universe of his horror-mystery 'Weapons' after its huge success. He recently stated in an interview that Warner Bros. and New Line are formally working on a prequel centered on Aunt Gladys, the terrifying character portrayed by Amy Madigan. This new movie promises to explore the dark legend surrounding Gladys's terrifying role in 'Weapons,' with mysterious roots and high levels of fan curiosity.

Zach Cregger has openly stated that the Aunt Gladys prequel is not merely a rumour—"It is real and I've been talking to Warner Bros. about it." Despite not having a script yet, he explained that he had a whole story framework for the project in his mind. According to insiders, the concept was conceived even before 'Weapons' was released in theaters, and preliminary talks have already begun.
A chapter examining Gladys's past was originally included in Cregger's 'Weapons' screenplay, but it was eventually deleted for runtime and pace reasons. Cregger has made it clear that the prequel won't just be a rehashing of those earlier pages, even though it might expand upon or draw from that deleted material.

He provided two potential origin stories for her character in previous interviews: First, a once-normal individual who, in despair, turned to evil magic, or Second, can be, a supernatural being posing as a human. Although he gave Amy Madigan all options, he stated that he is unsure of which she will select or whether the two may be combined in any way.
From Weapons to Origins: Cast, Plot & Timeline
In 'Weapons' (released on 8th August), a chilling mystery unfolds when 17 children from the same classroom vanish in the dead of night, leaving only one child, Alex, behind. The main antagonist, Aunt Gladys, played by Amy Madigan, has supernatural abilities and a haunting grip on the story. Josh Brolin, Cary Christopher, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich are among the members of the ensemble cast.
While Cregger is currently occupied with his upcoming 'Resident Evil reboot' (scheduled for 18th September, 2026), the Gladys prequel is expected to arrive later. As of yet, no official release date has been disclosed.

For the time being, speculations focuses on the movie's examination of Gladys' transition into the force we encounter in 'Weapons,' including the reasons behind it, the abilities she initially found, and how her presence crept into the nightmares of that tiny town.
Casting beyond Madigan's potential return has not been confirmed because the prequel is still in its early stages. However, if Weapons' popularity and financial success are any guide, the impending origin tale may turn into a highly anticipated installment in Cregger's developing horror universe.
