Scarlett Johansson is generating buzz about her potential role in Disney's live-action adaptation of the 2010 animated hit 'Tangled.' The 40-year-old actress recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight at the Newport Beach Film Festival, discussing the possibility of portraying the film's villain, Mother Gothel.
While Scarlett Johansson did not confirm her casting, she expressed excitement about the opportunity to collaborate with Michael Gracey, the director attached to the project. She described Gracey as an extraordinary visionary whose creative approach makes him a dream collaborator for any actor.

'Tangled' Live-Action Movie Update
Disney first announced plans for a live-action 'Tangled' with Gracey, known for directing 'The Greatest Showman,' back in December 2024. Development was temporarily paused in April after the underwhelming box office performance of the studio's live-action 'Snow White,' starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot.
While official casting has yet to be announced, Scarlett Johansson is widely expected to take on the role of Mother Gothel, originally voiced by Donna Murphy in the 2010 animated version.

Gracey's previous work includes the 2024 biopic 'Better Man,' a film about singer Robbie Williams, notable for its CGI-enhanced performances. Scarlett Johansson herself has remained active on the big screen, appearing this year in 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' and 'The Phoenician Scheme,' and making her directorial debut with 'Eleanor the Great,' currently in theatres.
With Scarlett Johansson potentially stepping into the role of Mother Gothel and Gracey at the helm, Disney's live-action 'Tangled' promises to blend classic fairy-tale storytelling with contemporary cinematic spectacle.
