Stormzy has expanded his creative empire with the launch of #Merky Films, unveiling its first project—a short film titled ‘Big Man’. This step marks the grime artist’s foray into visual storytelling, expanding his ever-growing portfolio of cultural initiatives, which already features #Merky Books, #Merky Foundation, and #Merky FC.
The upcoming short film, created in collaboration with Apple and filmed entirely on an iPhone 16 Pro, features Stormzy in his first lead acting role. Directed by Academy Award-winner Aneil Karia, ‘Big Man’ is scheduled to premiere on YouTube at 8pm BST on Wednesday, 18th June.
According to its synopsis, ‘Big Man’ follows the fictional story of Tenzman, a former rap icon facing a period of uncertainty in his life. When the lively duo Klevis and Tyrell unexpectedly step into his closely guarded life, the three form a life-changing connection. This connection reawakens Tenzman’s lost musical passion and a renewed sense of joy and purpose. The film explores themes of self-rediscovery, vulnerability, and gratitude through a mix of humour and emotional depth.

Stormzy said that film has always been a passion of his, second only to music, and described the launch of #Merky Films as a long-time dream. He said the goal was to build a home for powerful, original British stories and to elevate voices that deserve wider recognition.
He hoped viewers would connect with ‘Big Man’, which he said was a celebration of youth, joy, and the sense of adventure that comes with it. He encouraged audiences to embrace that fearless energy and to continue dreaming boldly.
In addition to ‘Big Man’, #Merky Films is working on a range of upcoming projects, which include a high-profile drama series, a significant biopic, various documentaries, an animated production, and what has been described as a bold, genre-defying new-age mockumentary. The company’s broader aim, Stormzy said, is to produce content that connects communities, celebrates culture, and drives meaningful change in British cinema and television.
Stormzy’s Latest Music and Cambridge Honour
In music, Stormzy recently returned with the freestyle track ‘Sorry Rach!’, followed by a collaboration with Jvck James titled ‘Easier Done Than Said’. His most recent studio album, ‘This Is What I Mean’, released in 2022, topped the UK charts and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2023 BRIT Awards. He also won the Hip-hop/Grime/Rap Act award at this year’s ceremony.
Earlier in 2024, it was announced that Stormzy would be awarded an honorary doctorate from Cambridge University, recognising his influence both within and beyond the music industry.
