Before falling in love on-screen in the upcoming action-thriller 'One Battle After Another,' Teyana Taylor and Leonardo DiCaprio formed an unexpected friendship that predates their work on the film. The duo revealed that they first connected at a Diana Ross birthday party, where they immediately clicked and became fast friends.
Leonardo DiCaprio, 50, explained that he had known Taylor, 34, for many years, which made her a natural choice for the role of Perfidia, a bold and complex character in Paul Thomas Anderson's film. He and Anderson had been searching for someone who could embody a radical figure capable of influencing every character in the story. Taylor's improvisational talent and strong presence made her the perfect fit, leaving a lasting impact on the cast and the film’s narrative.

Teyana Taylor's Thoughts on Friendship With Leonardo DiCaprio
Taylor confirmed that their friendship was instantaneous, joking that Leonardo DiCaprio became her "wingman" long before filming began. Their real-life bond translated seamlessly on-screen, adding depth to the characters’ romantic and revolutionary dynamic.
In 'One Battle After Another,' Leonardo DiCaprio portrays Bob, a disillusioned revolutionary living off the grid, navigating a haze of paranoia while raising his daughter, Willa. Taylor's Perfidia, Bob's former love and fellow revolutionary, becomes central to the story after being apprehended by law enforcement, prompting Bob and Willa to go on the run with the help of an ally played by Benicio del Toro.

The movie also stars Regina Hall as Deandra, a fellow revolutionary, alongside Sean Penn, who takes on the role of Bob's adversary. Leonardo DiCaprio noted that the story explores extremes of human behaviour, reflecting societal issues around communication and empathy.
'One Battle After Another' brings together Wood Harris and Alana Haim, representing Anderson’s first venture since the widely praised 'Licorice Pizza' (2021), which earned three Oscar nods, including Best Picture. The new film hits theatres on 26th September.
