Matt Selman just shared that there is still one major celebrity he has not managed to book for 'The Simpsons'—and he is absolutely not ready to wave the white flag.

After decades of iconic guest stars and unforgettable cameos, there is still one dream name on his wish list. And if Selman has his way, that star might eventually find their way to Springfield.

Speaking at the show's 800th episode celebration in Los Angeles, Matt Selman, who serves as the longtime showrunner, shared that the one guest star he continues to hope for is Will Ferrell. He playfully sent a message to the actor, saying they keep writing great material for him and are ready whenever he is.

Since its debut on FOX in 1989, 'The Simpsons' has welcomed an impressive list of guest stars. Over the years, major names like Lady Gaga, Meryl Streep and Paul McCartney have all made memorable appearances.

'The Simpsons' Reputation

During the event, Selman also addressed the show's long-running reputation for seemingly predicting the future. He explained that trying too hard to predict things only ruins the magic. Instead, the writers focus on telling honest, funny stories and letting coincidences happen naturally. He added that people love to believe in magic, even if it is simply the power of coincidence at work.

Looking ahead to the milestone 800th episode, which airs on 15th February, Selman joked that he is lucky to have some of the best comedy writers in the world coming up with ideas while he takes the credit. The team wanted to create one of their signature travel episodes set in Philadelphia. They also explored the emotional ups and downs of owning a pet, while mixing in a playful parody of a big Jerry Bruckheimer-style adventure film similar to 'National Treasure.'

Matt Selman's Proudest Moment in 'The Simpsons'

One moment Selman is especially proud of is a heartfelt speech delivered by Marge at the end of the episode about the emotional journey of caring for a pet. He said the scene captures the raw, honest storytelling style championed by co-creator James L. Brooks. Even though the speech is funny, it also serves as a tribute to Brooks, the show itself, the characters and pet lovers everywhere. Matt Selman shared that he could not be prouder of how it turned out.

'The Simpsons' continues to air on FOX, still finding new ways to surprise audiences nearly four decades later.
