Tim Curry has always enjoyed interacting with fans, but one encounter during the height of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' craze left the actor both amused and embarrassed.
In his new memoir, 'Vagabond,' Tim Curry looks back on a memorable night in 1976 when he decided to attend a screening of the cult classic at a theatre near his Greenwich Village apartment. Having originated the role of Dr Frank N. Furter on both stage and screen, the actor was curious to see how audiences were embracing the film's growing midnight movie phenomenon.

Before heading to the cinema, Curry called ahead to reserve a few tickets for himself and his friends, explaining that he had starred in the movie. To his surprise, the person on the other end of the line dismissed him, insisting he was the third person that day to claim to be Tim Curry. Intrigued, the actor decided to go anyway, determined to quietly enjoy the screening without drawing attention.
Once inside, Tim Curry and his friends sat toward the back, where he observed the lively audience participation that had already become a hallmark of 'Rocky Horror' screenings. As the film played, several audience members began to recognise him, and soon word spread through the crowd that the real Dr Frank N. Furter was in attendance.

Theatre Employee Accused Tim Curry of being an Imposter
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the theatre employee who had taken his call earlier approached him and accused him of being an imposter. The actor attempted to explain, but she was adamant that he wasn't who he claimed to be. Amused but slightly mortified, Tim Curry produced his passport to prove his identity.
When the woman realised her mistake, she quickly apologised and invited him to stay for the rest of the movie. Instead, Curry and his friends decided to leave, laughing as they exited the theatre.
