Known for his charming portrayal as Professor Filius Flitwick in all eight of the original 'Harry Potter' movies, Warwick Davis will play the part again in HBO's much awaited new series. He will be the first member of the original cast to return. Notably, Leigh Gill has been given the goblin part of Griphook, and Davis will now only portray the Charms professor. Filming commenced in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden—the same storied location used for the original film series.

This comeback serves as a potent link between the past and the future rather than merely paying homage to the original series. Apart from Davis, the series is bringing together a stellar cast of both new and old faces, including renowned actors like John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, as well as Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The project, which has Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and J.K. Rowling as an executive producer, intends to provide an incredibly accurate and immersive rendition of the original novels.

The series' goal to respect the legacy of the original movies while paving its own course is highlighted by Davis' casting. From the setting and production design at Leavesden to a sweeping ten-year narrative structure that will enable each book to be thoroughly examined across its own season, that legacy is woven into every aspect. By anchoring this new adaptation with an original cast member, HBO is signaling to fans that it values continuity, authenticity, and the emotional roots of the Harry Potter phenomenon.

Davis's return not only brings comfort to longtime followers but also adds a touch of continuity that enriches the storytelling experience—a feeling that Hogwarts isn't just being rebuilt, but lovingly restored. Production is officially underway, and HBO through its social media handle, has earlier confirmed that the series is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
