The new DC Universe (DCU) is officially moving forward with a 'Wonder Woman' movie, promising a fresh take on the iconic superhero. Gal Gadot may have brought Diana Prince to life in the earlier DCEU movies, but the forthcoming DCU reboot will see a fresh face stepping into the iconic role, as the entire Justice League lineup undergoes a complete recasting.
Development and Writing
James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, confirmed that a Wonder Woman film is part of the DCU Chapter One plan and is currently in the writing stage. Ana Nogueira, recently tapped by DC Studios to write next year's 'Supergirl' film, is now taking on the task of crafting the script for 'Wonder Woman.' Nogueira had initially been linked to a 'Teen Titans' project, but her work on Wonder Woman became a higher priority.

Prequel Series: 'Paradise Lost'
In addition to the main film, DCU is developing a Wonder Woman prequel series titled 'Paradise Lost,' which explores the mythos of the Amazons of Themyscira. The series, noted for its political intrigue and epic scope, is moving forward with the pilot currently in development. Gunn and Safran have emphasised that 'Paradise Lost' remains an important part of the DCU roadmap.
Casting the New Wonder Woman
The iconic role of Diana Prince in the DC Universe remains uncast, as Gal Gadot has confirmed she will not be reprising the character. Fan-favourite actresses rumoured to be considered include Alexandra Daddario, Adria Arjona, and Ana de Armas. DC Studios' approach is to cast key roles only after scripts are finalised, suggesting a potential casting announcement in 2026 if the script is completed by the end of 2025.

Potential Release Timeline
Once the scripts for 'Wonder Woman' and 'Batman: The Brave and the Bold' are completed, DC Studios intends to dive straight into production. If the script is ready by the end of 2025, production could begin in 2026. Considering DC's two-movie-per-year schedule, the Wonder Woman film could potentially release in 2027 or 2028, following 'Supergirl' and 'Clayface' in 2026, and 'The Batman 2' and other DCU projects in 2027.
This new Wonder Woman film marks a key milestone for the DCU, offering fans a chance to experience a reinvigorated take on one of the franchise’s most beloved characters while laying the groundwork for future interconnected stories.
