What Happened to Lizzo’s Legal Battle?

In September, a mere blink after Lizzo’s former groove companions took legal swipes at her and her entourage, the songstress found herself dancing to the tune of another lawsuit. This time, the legal serenade came from a designer named Asha Daniels, who had been strutting her stuff on the road with Lizzo earlier in the year.

Lizzo’s legal posse swiftly dismissed many of Daniels’ claims as nothing more than a legal jig without merit.

Asha Daniels, the designer in question, flung a bouquet of allegations at Lizzo and her squad in the lawsuit. At the forefront of the accusations was a paradox: the Grammy darling championing body positivity and inclusivity on stage, while behind the scenes, her crew allegedly waltzed through a ‘racist and sexualized’ work environment.

The legal performance was directed at Lizzo, her production company, tour manager Carline Gugliotta, and wardrobe maestro Amanda Nomura.

Daniels contended that she was unwillingly thrust into a ‘culture of racism and bullying,’ seemingly condoned by the star herself. Among the allegations were whispers of fat-phobic and racist banter, coupled with the denial of necessary medical care. According to Daniels, this cacophony of mistreatment played a part in her developing PTSD and anxiety, turning the glamorous tour into a nightmare.

These accusations bore a resemblance to another explosive legal drama filed by Lizzo’s former dancers, alleging not only racism and body shaming but also the uncomfortable dance of s*xual harassment. Daniels, who had spun her creative web in crafting bespoke costumes for Lizzo’s dancers, found herself entangled in the same web of bullying and harassment, as per the legal libretto.

So, what was Lizzo’s and her legal band’s response to this legal crescendo? Lizzo’s legal troupe, already engaged in a legal tango, swiftly moved to dismiss Daniels’ legal rhapsody. Their symphony of defence painted Daniels as a ‘disgruntled’ former employee, accusing her of dancing away from her professional duties and ultimately abandoning ship during Lizzo’s tour.

In their eyes, Daniels’ claims were not only without merit but also embellished with a hint of scandal.

The legal sonata also echoed a desire to shuffle the case off the legal stage, arguing it was wrongly staged in California, a place where Daniels had no business taking a legal bow. Ron Zambrano, Daniels’ legal choreographer, saw this as Lizzo’s team attempting another ‘hail mary,’ a strategic sidestep to escape accountability. Zambrano drew parallels with previous plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, former dancers alleging a medley of harassment from Lizzo and her crew.

In Zambrano’s rendition, Lizzo not only knows the ethically questionable acts within her entourage but actively partakes in the illicit ballet herself. Despite the legal troupe’s attempts to end the show prematurely, the future doesn’t seem like a standing ovation for the Grammy Luminary.
