When Does 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Season 2 Release? Latest Updates on Dunk and Egg's Next Adventure

There's way more to George R. R. Martin's Westeros than scheming royals and fire-breathing chaos. Enter 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'—a charming, character-focused adventure that sits right between 'House of the Dragon' and 'Game of Thrones' on the timeline.

Instead of thrones and epic wars, this story zooms in on heart, humour and a lovable underdog just trying to make his way in a very complicated world.

About 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'

Instead of focusing on kings and queens, the series follows Dunk, a kind-hearted but inexperienced former squire trying to pass himself off as a real knight. Alongside him is his clever young companion, Egg. The show is based on three novellas Martin wrote between 1998 and 2010, which were later collected in the 2015 book of the same name.

In 2024, executive producer Ryan Condal explained that these stories offer a refreshing contrast to the main saga. While the larger franchise often centres on powerful nobles battling for control, Dunk and Egg's journey shines a light on the ordinary people who are affected by those high-stakes power struggles.

The first season, which ran for six episodes and wrapped on 22nd February, earned strong reviews—including praise from Martin himself. He shared on his blog that Dunk and Egg have always been close to his heart and that the actors chosen to play them did an incredible job.

Is Season 2 Happening?

Yes. HBO confirmed in November 2025 that a second season is officially moving forward. Filming is currently underway in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The network is clearly committed to expanding the Westeros universe, as it has also renewed 'House of the Dragon' for a fourth season, with season three expected this summer.

What Will Season 2 Be About?

Season 2 will adapt 'The Sworn Sword', the second Dunk and Egg novella. After the dramatic events of season 1—including the Trial of Seven and Egg's decision to leave his royal family behind—the new season follows Dunk and Egg as they team up with an older knight while searching for Tanselle.

Showrunner Ira Parker has said the series stays true to the episodic nature of the books. Each season places Dunk and Egg in a new location, introduces a fresh conflict, tells a complete story and then wraps it up, while still allowing the characters to grow.

If the show continues into a third season, the plan is to adapt 'The Mystery Knight,' the third novella. Parker has hinted that Dunk and Egg's relationship has even more depth to explore over time.

Who's Returning?

While no new casting announcements have been made yet, Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell are confirmed to return as Dunk and Egg.

Parker has also teased the introduction of characters such as Rohanne Webber, Bennis of the Brown Shield and Ser Eustace Osgrey, adding that talented actors have already been cast in those roles.

There was brief online speculation that Henry Cavill might join the series, sparked by a comment at Comic-Con. However, Claffey later clarified on Instagram that it was simply a misunderstanding and had nothing to do with Cavill joining the show.
