Drag Race Season 17 alum Joella's full-on Labubu monster costume, complete with fluffy outfit, pointed ears, and enormous grin, left her looking stunning on the 2025 Emmys red carpet. The "Labubu Slaysian Edition" style instantly blazed social media and gave life to the viral collection.
The Emmys' Fuzziest Surprise
One of the most talked-about red carpet looks at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on 14th September, was a life-sized Labubu monster costume strolling among the guests rather than a gown or tuxedo.

Joella, the 25-year-old star of Season 17 of RuPaul's 'Drag Race,' arrived decked out in full furry Labubu lore, complete with a red dress over the fur suit, red shoes, a cheeky takeout box purse, plush ears under a straw hat, and over-the-top makeup that mimicked Labubu's famous wide eyes and sharp-toothed grin.
Leaning proudly and artistically into her Slaysian heritage, she dubbed the ensemble her "Labubu Slaysian Edition" on Instagram.
Decoding Joella's Costume
Joella embodied Labubu with theatrical intricacy and cultural flair, not only by dressing up. A flawless circular cutout encircled by effect makeup exposed her face, mimicking the doll's appearance. The colorful accessories, such as the woven hat, takeout-box purse, and red shoes, elevated the idea from "dress-up" to performance art.

She spent moments with fans and celebrities, such as Lisa from BLACKPINK, and photographed with other 'Drag Race' faces, such as Kori King, who showed up wearing a Michael Jackson homage outfit. On social media, fans were thrilled: comments ranged from delighting in the boldness ("That is so Joella of Joella") to admiration for translating a viral plush toy into a high‑concept drag moment.

What Is Labubu? The Plush Doll Trend Behind the Costume
Labubu is part of "The Monsters" series, a plush/toy universe created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung, and sold by Pop Mart. Known for its comical, "ugly-but-cute" appearance, the plush monster has a spherical, furry body, pointed ears, big eyes, and nine sharp teeth that form a wicked smile.
After making an appearance in Lung's picture books, the character gained international recognition when Pop Mart started selling Labubu figurines in "blind box" style, where customers are unaware of the version they will receive until they open it.

Celebrity sightings (Lisa from BLACKPINK was particularly early) and collection culture have contributed to the toy's meteoric rise in popularity, particularly in East and Southeast Asia. It's a mix of cute, creepy, and collectible that makes it ideal for viral red‑carpet moments.
