Will Smith And Jada Pinkett Smith Are in For The Long Run

Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about her enduring commitment to Will Smith, affirming that they’re in it for the long run. During a taped interview on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show,’ the actress, who is currently promoting her memoir, ‘Worthy,’ addressed the speculation surrounding their relationship. This comes after a long string of statements on the couple’s rocky marriage.

When Barrymore broached the topic of the couple’s separation, Pinkett Smith stated, “We’re staying together forever. I tried. We tried.” This declaration follows her revelation last month that she and the King Richard actor had been separated since 2016.

Speaking to Hoda Kotb on ‘Today Show’ in October, she shared, “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying.” Pinkett Smith acknowledged that they were both entangled in their idealized versions of each other, which contributed to the strain on their marriage.

The couple’s union has been under public scrutiny for years, especially after the 2022 Academy Awards incident where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock following a joke about Pinkett Smith. This incident became a pivotal moment for Pinkett Smith, prompting her to recommit to their marriage. She expressed, “I didn’t come into this place as your wife, but I’m leaving here as your wife because we got a storm we’re gonna have to deal with together. I am NOT going to leave your side. I really love him.”

In a preview clip from ‘The Drew Barrymore Show,’ Pinkett Smith emphasized their enduring commitment, dispelling any doubts about the longevity of their marriage. Despite the challenges and past separation, Pinkett Smith asserted, “I’m not leaving Will’s side, and he’s not going to leave mine. We’ve been on a powerful quest. And I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

Shifting gears, the interview also touched on lighter topics, with Pinkett Smith reminiscing about the making of ‘Girls Trip.’ Describing the experience, she shared, “We had a good time on that movie. Tiffany [Haddish] was always coming up with something wild to do in the scene, and we would play off of her.”

When asked about a potential sequel to the 2017 comedy, Pinkett Smith responded optimistically, saying, “They keep talking about it, so we’ll see. It would be lovely to do.”
