Xperience Session with Tarang Joseph

RJ Niladri from indigomusic.com caught up with Tarang Joseph who is a young upcoming Bangalore based pianist and vocalist. He was born in Malaysia and spent his early years in California before moving to Bangalore.

Tarang started his musical journey at the age of four. Being well trained in piano and vocals from an early age, he went on to form a classic rock band ‘Fleeting Glimpse’ with his best friend Ashwin (popularly known on Spotify as ASHWYN) when he was 12 years old. Their first band single ‘Bungee Jumping’ which received widespread media attention for the inspiring message based on mental health and suicide awareness was released three years ago.

They played at many esteemed venues in the country for a couple of years and received ample coverage by the Indian media before they disbanded. The reasons he cited for the band breaking up was that they all moved to different countries for college. This led him to pursue a solo music career under his name Tarang Joseph. Later he formed a new band called the ‘Tarang Joseph Collective’. Tarang said that during the pandemic, he got enough time to write, record and produce two EPs.

He draws inspiration from artists such as John Mayer, Daniel Caesar and Tom Misch, and loves to experiment with different genres of music, thereby creating something new musically. He is drawn towards music genres like pop, jazz and blues.

When asked what can be expected from the ‘Tarang Joseph Collective’ in the coming months, he said, “So, we’ve got a bunch of shows planned over the next couple months and we have some releases featuring a lot of cool artists coming up soon. Tarang Joseph Collective will be performing alongside some notable names and that’s what you can look forward to I suppose. Hopefully we would be able to do a tour of India soon.”
