RJ Rohit from Indigomusic.com caught up with indie artist, Shuba. She is a first-generation Indian-American musician, who incorporates Bollywood elements into pop-rap masterpieces. Eminem’s rapping, Ariana Grande’s infectious hooks, and Freddie Mercury’s energising vocals have all influenced her. Shuba has been showing her unquestionable gift of rapping and singing in an authentic manner by combining the ethnic sounds of her Indian origin with a combination of captivating voice, well-crafted lyrics, and an overall self-assured aura.
Shuba aspires to make music for the underdogs who feel trapped inside society’s “norm” after growing up as a minority in the United States. She struggles with self-acceptance on a daily basis, from appreciating her hair to feeling like she fits into the standards of her own Indian culture. Shuba wrote during her 6th grade graduation, in a small midwestern town that she aspired to be a singer, aiming to one day be as well-known as a skyscraper in a big metropolis.
Shuba is a TikTok star with 5.5M followers. She has garnered attention from Celine Dion and Shakira (who remixed her TikTok video), for her impressions and graceful voice. Shuba is now back with her first single of 2022, ‘Love Runs Out,’ exhibiting her real ability of singing/rapping in a unique way.
