Why Dolly Parton and Late Husband Carl Dean Never Had Kids

During their nearly 60-year marriage, Dolly Parton and her late husband, Carl Dean, consciously chose not to have children.

The country music icon earlier told Oprah Winfrey that she was able to concentrate on her profession since she decided not to have children.  She was able to focus entirely on her career because she didn’t have to worry about raising a family and her husband was self-sufficient.

The romance between Parton and Dean started long before she became famous.  She moved to Nashville to seek a career in music at the age of 18, where she met Dean outside a laundromat.  Two years later, in 1966, the pair got married, although Dean wished to remain anonymous as Parton’s fame grew.

Additionally, she has stated that she felt she was destined to change many lives rather than have children.  Her choice to start the Imagination Library, a program that has given children free books for the past 30 years, was influenced by this conviction.  Parton attributed her charity endeavours and professional success to her ability to concentrate on her work.

Parton and Dean loved spending time together despite their hectic schedules.  She once revealed that they embraced a modest and secluded lifestyle, enjoying road vacations, travelling through Tennessee and Kentucky, and lodging in basic motels along the way.

Parton said on 3rd March that her adored husband had died at the age of 82.  As she and their family grieved his passing, she offered a poignant remembrance of their intense love and asked for privacy.
