Neneh Cherry and Sia’s New Album ‘Manchild’ Has Been Released
Neneh Cherry has introduced a new collaborative album called ‘The Versions,’ which will feature artists like Robyn and Greetea Peng reworking songs from Cherry’s discography.
Sia has recreated Cherry’s 1989 hit ‘Manchild,’ following Robyn’s rendition of ‘Buffalo Stance.’
Take a look at it below.
Neneh was Sia’s favourite artist when she first arrived on the scene, she claimed. She set aside her pocket money for red filas and hoped to meet her one day.
She revealed that when she was struggling with mental health issues in her early twenties, she was taken care of by them in their house as though she was one of their own kids. She recalls calling her spouse during a suicide attempt, who had been mentoring her as an incredible music producer, and they showered her with so much love. She said that she owes them and would sing ‘a-b-c’ for them if they requested.
Greentea Peng will cover 1992’s ‘Buddy X’ on ‘The Versions,’ and Honey Dijon has remixed the song as well. The album will be released on 10th June.
This year’s Icon Award at the BandLab NME Awards 2022 went to Neneh Cherry. The Icon Award was presented to the singer-songwriter by her own daughter, the artist Mabel, at the O2 Academy Brixton on 2nd March.
Mabel said in her acceptance speech that she was so grateful to have her as a mother and that she would probably always be a smidgeon cooler than her. She said that Neneh is a huge inspiration to her and a role model for a lot of people.
Cherry thanked NME and everybody who feels she deserves such a thing she said as she took the stage. She has always hoped to be in this for the long haul and feels that she is not there yet.
