Xperience Sessions With Artist, Aurora
RJ Rohit had a chat with the sensational Norwegian songstress, Aurora, about her new album ’What Happened to the Heart?’ and more.
Aurora Aksnes known mononymously as Aurora is a singer, songwriter and record producer. Born in Stavanger and raised in the towns of Høle and Os, she began crafting her first songs and exploring dance at the age of six.
After gaining popularity in Norway with some of her songs uploaded online, she secured recording contracts with Petroleum Records, Decca and Glassnote Records in 2014. Aurora rose to prominence with her debut extended play (EP) titled ‘Running with the Wolves’ in 2015, which featured the breakout hit ‘Runaway’.
Aurora’s debut studio album, ‘All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend’ (2016), garnered generally positive reviews and achieved chart success across various European countries, earning double platinum certification in Norway. Her music, characterized by its blend of electropop, folk and art pop elements, features vocals often described as “ethereal.”
Initially focused on piano, Aurora expanded her musical repertoire to include percussion and other aspects of music production as her career progressed. She has also made notable contributions to the soundtracks of numerous films, television series, and video game franchises, including ‘Girls,’ ‘Frozen II,’ ‘Wolfwalkers,’ ‘One Piece’ series, ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda,’ ‘Sky: Children of the Light’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed’.

In April 2022, Aurora read a letter co-written by indigenous activists titled ‘We Are the Earth,’ an experience that, according to The Line of Best Fit magazine, profoundly impacted her. This letter advocated for a revolution, urging a united effort to address global warming. Describing the planet as “the heart that pulsates within us,” the sentiments expressed therein inspired Aurora to shape both the title and concept of her album.
In Xperience Sessions with RJ Rohit, Aurora spoke at length about her forthcoming album called ‘What Happened To The Heart?’ and three tracks from it: ‘Your Blood’, ‘The Conflict of The Mind’ and ‘Some Type of Skin’. Check out the interview below.
