Green Day Rocks Citi Field in Deadpool and Wolverine Costumes

Green Day totally surprised their fans during their recent gig at Citi Field in Queens, NY, on 5th August, when they hit the stage dressed as Deadpool and Wolverine.

The trio, featuring Tré Cool, Mike Dirnt, and Billie Joe Armstrong, is currently on a nostalgia trip, celebrating 30 years of their iconic album ‘Dookie’ and 20 years of ‘American Idiot’. They’ve been rocking through both albums in full, with epic support from Rancid, The Linda Lindas, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

In a hilarious twist, as they wrapped up their 37-song marathon, Armstrong was caught off guard when Dirnt and Cool emerged in full superhero regalia. While Billie Joe was giving an acoustic performance of ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),’ Dirnt slipped into Wolverine’s claws and Cool into Deadpool’s mask. Their surprise appearance was so over-the-top that it had Billie Joe laughing so hard he could barely finish the song. Check out the footage and fan reactions below!

In other Green Day news, Billie Joe Armstrong sparked controversy during their US tour when he brandished a Donald Trump mask at their Washington, DC show. The mask, which had “idiot” written across its forehead, was reportedly tossed onto the stage by a fan. Armstrong also tweaked a lyric from the ‘American Idiot’ title track, replacing “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” with “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda,” a change he has made at previous shows.

Before hitting the States, the band wrapped up the UK and European legs of their ‘Saviours’ stadium tour.

As for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, it hit theatres worldwide on 26th July, marking the characters’ long-awaited debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This film is the latest installment in Phase Five, following November’s ‘The Marvels’.

The movie has already set a new record for the highest opening weekend for an R-rated film, raking in around $205 million in North America alone, surpassing the previous record held by the original Deadpool. Globally, it has amassed $438 million in its first weekend, making it the eighth largest opening of all time.
