Today, Roddy Ricch rings in his 22nd birthday and it’s safe to say that this year has simply seen Roddy blossom as an artist. Born, Rodrick Wayne Moore, Jr, the star has been creating quite the ripple with his standout track, ‘Rockstar’ featuring DaBaby. Not only has the young rapper gone on to dominate multiple charts, but he’s also picked up a good few awards along the way. And now armed with a sparkling set of accolades, it’s safe to say that Roddy is ready to cement his name in the industry.
And so on his birthday, we figured that before the rapper skyrockets to superstardom, we’d properly acquaint you with him. So, buckle up as we give you a taste of all shades of Roddy Ricch.

1. Like many musicians, Roddy Ricch started rapping and singing at an incredibly young age: 8. And he began making beats in earnest at the age of 16.
2. Growing up, Roddy drew his inspiration from a number of wells, particularly from rappers like Lil Wayne, Young Thug, Future, and Speaker Knockerz.
3. As many critics have pointed out, Roddy’s style is reminiscent of those rappers he looked up to during his childhood. As Vulture’s Paul Thompson called Ricch “an undeniably talented vocalist and occasionally a compelling songwriter”, further stating how he “frequently adopts the same syntax and vocal intonations as Young Thug.”
4. Speaking of the heavy themes fueling his songwriting, Ricch explained, “As I experience life, my music is gonna evolve. At the same time, I still do tell the stories from my world because there are unlimited stories and unlimited people from that place. I’ll always represent them.”
5. Now, coming to his dazzling list of accolades, the star has spent eighteen cumulative weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100 charts so far, the most for any artist in 2020.
6. Roddy earned his first Hot 100 No. 1 claim with ‘The Box’, followed by ‘Rockstar’, alongside DaBaby which marked his second No. 1 win on the chart.
7. Throughout his career, Ricch has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning one. He has also been nominated for five BET Awards, winning two.
8. Speaking of adjusting to all the flashing lights and clicking cameras, Roddy confessed, “I’ve been through a lot. Going through shit like bullets flying, it’ll f*ck you up a little bit. It triggers something else in you. This fame shit is new to me. Being in rooms where you don’t have to worry about shit, I don’t get that side of life yet.”
9. Speaking of, it was ultimately the star’s standout talent that made heads turn. As Cady Lang of Time magazine noted, Ricch’s “remarkable musical style gets an extra gravitas with his lyrics that range from pondering the tough realities of life to bouts of uninhibited bravado”.
10. In a recent interview, Ricch revealed that his second studio album is complete, however he said he’s waiting for the right time to release it. Ricch deemed the album “a full-blown masterpiece. A real idea. A real body of work”
