Roddy Ricch competes at this year's BET Awards with nominations for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Video of the Year, Viewer's Choice and New Artist.
Music world heavy weights Lizzo and Beyonce, accompanied by Nicki Minaj and DaBaby chime in with 4 nominations each. In fact, Nicki Minaj scores an impressive record. Her nomination this year makes her the first female rapper in history to be nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist for 10 consecutive years.
The annual BET Awards were established in 2001 by the Black Entertainment Television network. In a move of inclusion, the award show strives to celebrate and honour the work of members from the African-American community. Entertainers and representatives in all fields including music, acting, sports and entertainment find a place at this award show.
A statement from BET reads: "Using an array of innovative techniques and artist-generated content, the show will continue, allowing the audience to join in a celebration of black love, joy, pride and power with an all-star lineup".
The 2020 BET Awards will be held on the 28th of June with minor changes in programming, reflecting the ongoing global pandemic.
