Halsey Reveals Britney Spears Gave Her Blessing to Release ‘Lucky’

Halsey has revealed that Britney Spears approved her decision to sample the 2000 hit ‘Lucky’ for her upcoming single of the same name. Earlier this month, Halsey teased the track with a message directed at Spears, expressing that Britney’s music had a profound impact on her since childhood. Along with this message, Halsey shared a photo of herself wearing a t-shirt with the word ‘Lucky’.

“But I’m so lucky, I’m a star / But I cry, cry, cry in the lonely heart thinking / If there’s nothing missing in my life / Then why do these tears come at night?” On the track, she sings while slightly adapting the original lyrics to a first-person perspective.

Currently, we have only a clip of the song, with the full release scheduled for 26th July. You can listen to the preview below.

On Thursday, Halsey announced on X that she had obtained Britney’s blessing to incorporate her pop classic into her new track. When a fan inquired about any communication with Spears, Halsey confirmed with a simple “Yes, of course!”

“I wouldn’t even dream of doing it without her blessing!” she added.

Spears’ original single, released on 25th July, 2000, was the second single from her album ‘Oops! I Did It Again’. The song tells the story of a renowned actress who appears to have everything but struggles with feelings of unhappiness and loneliness.

‘Lucky’ follows Halsey’s recent single ‘The End’. When she released that track, Halsey shared that she felt “lucky to be alive” after facing health challenges.

She has since described her upcoming album as “all over the place” and “full of experimentation”.

Halsey’s upcoming single ‘Lucky,’ which samples Britney Spears’ 2000 hit, marks an exciting moment for fans of both artists. Halsey’s adaptation of the classic with a first-person twist adds a fresh perspective to the iconic track. Spears’ approval highlights a positive collaboration between the two. The full release on 26th July will likely be highly anticipated, especially given the emotional depth hinted at in the teaser. Halsey’s recent single ‘The End’ and her candid remarks about health challenges demonstrate her resilience and creative evolution. With her new album promised to be eclectic and experimental, fans have much to look forward to.
