Apple TV+ has unveiled a major upcoming project: a five-part documentary on legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese, titled Mr. Scorsese. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Rebecca Miller—known for works like She Came To Me and Personal Velocity—the series promises an in-depth look at Scorsese’s life and illustrious career. A release date has yet to be confirmed, but Apple has stated it’s “coming soon.”
The documentary will offer unprecedented access to Scorsese’s personal archives, along with exclusive interviews with the director himself. Viewers can also expect never-before-seen conversations with his family, childhood friends, and an impressive lineup of collaborators and admirers.
Among those featured are long-time creative partners Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Daniel Day-Lewis, Steven Spielberg, Margot Robbie, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, and Cate Blanchett. His wife Helen Morris and other close family members will also appear in the series.
Spanning from Scorsese’s early days at New York University—where he made his first student films—to his current projects, Mr. Scorsese aims to be a comprehensive chronicle of his journey in cinema.

Director Rebecca Miller shared that the documentary has been in development for several years. Initially envisioned as a single film, the project expanded into a five-part series due to the sheer breadth and richness of Scorsese’s story. “His work and life are so vast and so compelling that the piece evolved from one to five parts over a five-year period,” she said. “Crafting this documentary alongside my longtime collaborators has been one of the defining experiences of my life as a filmmaker.”
Earlier this month, it was also announced that Scorsese is producing a documentary centered on the late Pope Francis, which will include the pontiff’s final on-camera interview. Pope Francis passed away on April 21 at the age of 88.
Additionally, Martin Scorsese made headlines earlier this year for joining fellow filmmakers like Spike Lee, Wes Anderson, and Willem Dafoe in protesting the shutdown of historic cinemas in Rome. He also surprised fans by confirming he’s working on a new project with actor and former wrestler Dwayne Johnson.
