Sam Smith shared that the only time they received a song that later became a major hit was ‘Cold Water’ by Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber. Smith was offered the track but was too busy to take it on at the time. They expressed satisfaction with their decision to pass on it, noting that Bieber’s version was a better fit for the song.

Smith also spoke about their collaboration with Calvin Harris, describing it as an incredible experience. They have worked together on the tracks ‘Promises’ and ‘Desire’.

Smith initially had uncertain expectations about working with Calvin Harris, wondering about his role in the music-making process. They were impressed to find that Harris handles everything himself, rather than just being a taste maker. Smith was quickly captivated by Harris’ talent and noted that working on ‘Promises’ was an incredibly enjoyable experience. They believe that the fun they had is evident in the song’s writing.

They also mentioned that Harris is an incredible person who has supported and uplifted them during times of need.

In another part of the conversation, the ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ singer talked about what to expect from their upcoming BBC Proms performance, scheduled for early next month.

In the first half of the show, Smith will celebrate ten years of ‘In the Lonely Hour,’ while the second half will feature a special surprise. They expressed excitement about the performance and reassured fans that it will be a relaxed event without any wardrobe changes.

Smith added that the show will be a beautiful experience, with their family attending, and is an opportunity to highlight their love for music, especially British music, and share their musical roots.

In other news, Smith recently announced that they have re-recorded ‘Stay With Me’ to mark its 10th anniversary.
