Sufjan Stevens Has Produced John Legend’s New Album for Children

John Legend has revealed an unexpected collaboration with Sufjan Stevens for his upcoming children’s album. Titled ‘My Favourite Dream’, the album is set to release on 30th August and is filled with sing-alongs and lullabies for children and families. The record draws inspiration from Legend’s experience as a father of four with his wife, Chrissy Teigen.

John Legend shared that his parents often sang around the house, creating bedtime songs and tunes to motivate and inspire their children. Similarly, he and Chrissy Teigen enjoy singing to their kids, making up little jingles and ditties as music plays a key role in their family interactions.

Legend has now revealed that Sufjan Stevens is the producer for the album, noting that Stevens’ musical approach was ideal for crafting the arrangements and soundscapes to enhance the songs. Stevens was Legend’s first and only choice for the project, and he was thrilled that Stevens agreed to collaborate.

The album, ‘My Favourite Dream’, will include nine original songs, three covers of Fisher-Price songs, and three bonus tracks. The lead single, ‘L-O-V-E’, released on 9th August, features vocals from Legend’s two oldest children, along with contributions from Teigen and Stevens.

In other news, Sufjan Stevens’ Broadway musical Illinoise concluded its 16-week run last night (August 10). The 90-minute production, directed, choreographed, and co-written by Justin Peck, is based on Stevens’ 2005 concept album Illinois. The show previously had runs at Bard College’s Fisher Center in New York and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
