Adventure is set to rise again from the tombs—Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reportedly reuniting for a brand-new instalment of 'The Mummy' franchise.

According to industry sources, the beloved duo is in talks to reprise their iconic roles as Rick and Evelyn O'Connell in a new chapter of Universal Pictures' classic monster universe.

Update on 'The Mummy' Sequel

The upcoming film is expected to be directed by the Radio Silence team—Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett—known for their work on 'Ready or Not,' the 'Scream' reboots, and 'Abigail.' While the plot remains under wraps, early reports suggest the filmmakers are aiming to blend action, humour, and supernatural adventure in a way that honours the spirit of the original films. Universal has not yet announced an official release date or confirmed production details.

Fraser, 56, and Weisz, 55, first captivated audiences in 1999's 'The Mummy,' directed by Stephen Sommers. The film became a global box office hit, blending thrilling action with lighthearted charm. They returned in 2001's 'The Mummy Returns,' which introduced Dwayne Johnson in his first film role. For 2008's 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,' Fraser reprised his role, while the character of Evelyn was recast with Maria Bello.

Other 'The Mummy' Reboot Attempts

Universal attempted to reboot the franchise in 2017 with Tom Cruise in the lead, but the film struggled to connect with audiences and critics. Fans have long hoped to see Fraser and Weisz return to their adventurous roots—and now, it seems that wish may soon come true.

In past interviews, Fraser has expressed his belief that 'The Mummy' works best as a fun, thrilling adventure rather than pure horror. He described the series as a cinematic thrill ride full of humour and heart, rather than something dark and terrifying.

Weisz, too, has reflected fondly on the franchise's lasting legacy. She once admitted that no one involved in the original film expected it to become such a beloved hit. For her, the movie's enduring charm comes from an intangible magic—something she described as a combination of chemistry, wit, and old-fashioned adventure storytelling that simply can't be manufactured.

The original 'The Mummy' trilogy remains one of the most iconic action-adventure series of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Now, more than two decades later, the return of Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz promises to bring that same mix of excitement, humour, and nostalgia to a new generation of moviegoers.
