When Chris Hemsworth shared a sentimental video titled “Thank You! The Legacy of Thor” earlier this year, many Marvel fans feared the worst. With 'Avengers: Doomsday' officially on the MCU slate, speculation swirled that the actor was quietly saying farewell to the role of Thor — potentially hinting at the character's death in the upcoming blockbuster. But according to Hemsworth, fans misread the situation entirely.
Chris Hemsworth Addresses The Confusion
In a recent interview, Chris Hemsworth addressed the confusion head-on. He explained that the tribute video was never intended to signal the end of his journey as Thor. The content was simply a collaborative creation by his social media team to thank fans for their continued support. He saw it as a nice gesture to express appreciation, not as a farewell to the God of Thunder.

Almost immediately after the video was posted, theories began circulating online. Fans questioned whether Hemsworth was stepping down before 'Avengers: Doomsday', or if Thor might be written off in a shocking twist involving Doctor Doom. Some even speculated that it was a subtle setup for a recasting or soft reboot ahead of 'Secret Wars'. But Chris Hemsworth dismissed the speculation, saying that while some on his team noticed the growing confusion, there was no need for damage control — the post was purely a message of gratitude that had been misinterpreted.
Chris Hemsworth is Still With The Marvel Family
As for what’s next, Hemsworth is very much still in the Marvel game. He confirmed that he was already deep into preparations for 'Avengers: Doomsday' when the tribute video dropped. Although he didn’t reveal major plot points, industry sources suggest that the upcoming film will challenge Thor in ways fans haven't seen before. Directed once again by the Russo brothers, Doomsday is rumoured to introduce a powerful new version of Doctor Doom — reportedly portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in a multiversal twist.

Chris Hemsworth reaffirmed that Thor’s journey is far from over and described the upcoming chapter as a continuation of the role that has defined much of his career. He reiterated that the original video was created to reflect on that legacy, not to close the book on it.
'Avengers: Doomsday' is set to release globally in December 2026. In the meantime, fans can catch Hemsworth in his latest project, 'Limitless: Live Better Now', which streams on August 15th on Disney+ and Hulu, with a National Geographic premiere scheduled for August 25th.
