Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin have reportedly ended their long-term relationship once again, and according to multiple sources, the split “feels final this time.” Representatives for the pair have not commented on the matter.

The 35-year-old Materialists actress and the 48-year-old Coldplay frontman were first linked in 2017 and have had a history of on-and-off moments throughout their nearly eight-year relationship. Just last month, they were spotted together in Malibu on 16th May, and earlier in January, they were photographed holding hands in India during Coldplay’s tour.

The couple had actually been engaged “for years,” despite never making a public announcement. Although they weren’t in a hurry to marry, rumours of a breakup emerged in August 2024, which were denied by Johnson’s representatives at the time. A source had commented then that the couple had faced challenges but were doing well and trying to balance their personal and professional lives.

As recently as June 2024, insiders suggested that the pair were once again in a good place, despite previous ups and downs. Johnson, known for keeping her private life discreet, had earlier spoken about her close bond with Martin’s children from his previous marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow — Apple and Moses — describing her love for them as unconditional.

Johnson Reflects on Relationships While Promoting ‘Materialists’

She also spoke fondly of watching Martin perform, calling it a special experience she could never tire of. While promoting her upcoming film ‘Materialists’, which releases on 13th June, Johnson reflected on modern relationships in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. She questioned long-held societal norms around marriage and divorce, suggesting that personal happiness should take precedence over traditional expectations.
