Daniel Radcliffe has heard nearly every 'Harry Potter' joke imaginable over the last two decades, but recently revealed that only one has genuinely made him laugh—and it involves his own young son.
During a recent appearance on a late-night talk show with Seth Meyers, Radcliffe explained that it is very rare for a wizard-related joke to catch him off guard simply because he has heard so many over the years. According to him, it takes something truly clever and unexpected to get a real reaction.
Daniel Radcliffe's 'Harry Potter' Joke
The moment happened when the show's production team was preparing to ask Radcliffe about his child, whom he shares with his longtime partner Erin Darke. Radcliffe has chosen not to reveal his son's name publicly since his birth in 2023. While discussing the topic backstage, a producer jokingly asked if the reason was that his son's name was Voldemort—a playful nod to the franchise's most feared villain, whose name is often avoided in the series.

Radcliffe admitted that the joke caught him off guard and genuinely amused him, calling it one of the few 'Harry Potter' jokes that actually worked on him after all these years.
Daniel Radcliffe Fun Talk With 'Merrily We Roll Along' Co-Stars
While on the show, Radcliffe was also joined by his 'Merrily We Roll Along' co-stars Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez to promote the upcoming theatrical release of the musical's live filming. During that conversation, Mendez mentioned how Radcliffe was hesitant to watch himself at the premiere screening. Radcliffe confirmed this, explaining that he often finds it uncomfortable viewing his own performances, even though he enjoys watching his fellow actors.

The discussion also touched on the legacy of the 'Harry Potter' films and the upcoming HBO television adaptation scheduled to premiere in early 2027. Although Radcliffe has chosen not to be involved in the new series, he recently reached out to the young actor cast as the new Harry Potter, Dominic McLaughlin. He shared that he sent him a supportive letter and received a kind reply in return.
Radcliffe has expressed that he wants the new generation of young actors to enjoy the experience without any pressure or interference from him. He has also said that seeing photos of the new cast makes him feel both nostalgic and protective, as it reminds him of how young he was when he stepped into the role that defined his childhood.
