'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' Becomes Highest-Grossing Foreign Movie in U.S. Box Office History

Anime continues to make its mark on Hollywood, with 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba–The Movie: Infinity Castle' setting new box office records in the United States. Released by Sony's Crunchyroll on 12th September, the action-packed sequel became the highest-grossing international film in U.S. history, surpassing the long-standing record held by 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' from 2000.

The Oscar-winning martial arts epic, starring Chow Yun-Fat, Michelle Yeoh, and Zhang Ziyi, previously earned $128.5 million domestically. 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' has now topped that with an estimated $128.6 million and continues to climb, according to Box Office Mojo.

'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' Overtook Major Films

The movie has also overtaken classics such as 'Your Name,' 'Spirited Away,' and 'Suzume' to become the highest-grossing anime film in North America. It's estimated that $70 million opening weekend set a new record for the biggest U.S. debut for an anime film since 1999’s 'Pokémon: The First Movie'.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' is the first instalment in a planned trilogy by animation studio Ufotable, continuing the story from four seasons of the hit Japanese TV series based on Koyoharu Gotouge's manga. The English-language dub features voice talents including Channing Tatum, Zach Aguilar, Abby Trott, and Rebecca Wang.

The film has also shattered records in Japan, becoming the fastest movie to earn over 10 billion yen, surpassing its 2020 prequel 'Demon Slayer: Mugen Train' by reaching the milestone in just eight days following its 18th July release.

Globally, 'Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle' ranks as the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2025 to date and continues to perform strongly in theatres. It trails behind 'Jurassic World Rebirth,' 'A Minecraft Movie,' the live-action 'Lilo & Stitch,' and China's 'Ne Zha 2,' which currently holds the top spot. The success of these international animated films highlights a growing appetite among moviegoers for high-quality animation from around the world.
