Ever wondered what life is like as Eddie Murphy's spouse? The legendary comedian, now 64, says it's far more low-key than people might imagine. In a rare and personal interview for this week's issue of PEOPLE, timed ahead of his new Netflix documentary 'Being Eddie,' Murphy shared a glimpse into his home life with his wife, Paige Butcher.
Eddie Murphy's Daily Life
Murphy explained that despite his decades-long career and extraordinary experiences in the entertainment world, his day-to-day life at home is simple and predictable. He described himself as easy to understand as a partner and suggested that Butcher would likely agree. According to him, she never needs to wonder where he is because his routine is so consistent that she could name the room he is in and what he is watching at almost any given moment. Eddie Murphy playfully compared his habits to the calm, predictable nature of a cat.

Murphy and Butcher, an Australian model, began their relationship in 2012 and married in a private ceremony on Anguilla on 9th July 2024. They share two children together, contributing to Murphy’s family of ten children in total. In the documentary, viewers see Eddie Murphy surrounded by his blended family, with kids ranging from age 6 to 36.
Eddie Murphy and His Family
Reflecting on his large family, Murphy said it was something that naturally unfolded over time. He explained that he never planned on having ten children, but now considers it one of the greatest joys in his life. He emphasised that if someone has the means to support a big family, it can be a gratifying experience.
Eddie Murphy also expressed his pride in the fact that all of his children have grown into good people, and he likes to believe that he played a meaningful role in shaping that.

Earlier this year, Murphy watched his eldest son, Eric, 36, marry Jasmin Lawrence, the daughter of fellow comedian Martin Lawrence. When asked what brings him the most happiness today, Eddie Murphy pointed to the joy of simply living his life, being surrounded by family, and appreciating a career that has spanned nearly five decades.
Coming from modest beginnings, he said he is grateful for his longevity in Hollywood and the opportunity to witness so many changes in the industry. Eddie Murphy's Documentary 'Being Eddie' is now streaming on Netflix.
