The Golden Globes 2026 nominations were announced on 8th December, and Sydney Sweeney emerged as one of the most talked-about snubs. Her performance in 'Christy,' where she portrays boxer Christy Martin, did not earn any nominations. The biopic, which was released in cinemas on 7th November, struggled commercially, failing to reach the top 10 at the box office in its opening weekend and receiving mixed critical reception.
Many social media users noted that the lack of recognition for Sweeney's film was not surprising, citing the movie's underwhelming reviews and modest box office performance. Observers commented that the film did not generate the support or momentum needed for award consideration, and some suggested that labelling the omission a "snub" was misleading given the circumstances.

Sydney Sweeney's Criticism
The announcement comes shortly after Sydney Sweeney addressed the controversy surrounding her American Eagle ad campaign, Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans. The campaign faced criticism over the summer for allegedly promoting eugenics and white supremacy through a pun involving "jeans" and "genes," featuring a blonde-haired, blue-eyed model. Sweeney clarified that she approaches her work with kindness and aims to bring people together, opposing hate and divisiveness.
Looking ahead, Sweeney stars in the upcoming thriller 'The Housemaid,' set to release on 19th December in the US and 22nd December in the UK. In the film, Sweeney plays a housemaid employed by a wealthy couple, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, and becomes entangled in dark secrets within their household.

Other Snubs in Golden Globes Nominations
Sweeney was not the only notable actor omitted from the Golden Globes nominations. Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, and Hugh Jackman were also overlooked, while Kate Hudson earned a nomination for Best Female Actor–Musical/Comedy for her role in 'Marty Supreme.' The musical 'Wicked: For Good' received five nominations but missed out on Best Picture and Best Director.
The films with the most nominations included 'One Battle After Another' with nine, 'Sentimental Value' with eight, and 'Sinners' with seven. Among television series, 'The White Lotus' led with six nominations, followed by 'Adolescence' with five, and both 'Only Murders in the Building' and 'Severance' with four.

The nominations ceremony itself drew attention when Marlon Wayans was criticised for mispronouncing several nominees' names, including Ludwig Göransson and Elle Fanning. The Golden Globes 2026 will be hosted once again by Nikki Glaser, with the ceremony scheduled for 11th January.
