Ice Spice is setting her sights on more animated film roles following her first voice acting performance in 'The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.'
In an exclusive interview with Time Magazine for its special SpongeBob issue, the Grammy-nominated rapper and actress, whose real name is Isis Gaston, revealed her interest in potentially starring in future animated movies featuring 'Hello Kitty' and 'Betty Boop.' She made it clear that both characters are dream roles she would happily take on if the opportunity arose.
Fans can currently hear her in 'The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants,' where she voices a new Bikini Bottom character inspired by her signature style and recognisable ginger hair. This marks her official voice acting debut, following her on-screen role in Spike Lee's 'Highest 2 Lowest,' which was released earlier this year.

Ice Spice on Voice Acting
Ice Spice explained that the transition from live-action acting to voice acting felt natural and closely connected to her music career. She compared making music to a form of voice performance, noting that both involve creating character and emotion through sound. She also shared that the recording process was both challenging and exciting, as the role required her to stay true to the script while adapting to a particular animated personality within the SpongeBob universe.
For the film, Ice Spice also recorded an original song titled 'Big Guy.' She revealed that the track came together after hearing a beat that immediately reminded her of the SpongeBob world. The song was later revised to include vocabulary and references tied directly to the movie's setting and characters, making it a custom fit for the animated adventure.

As a longtime fan of the cartoon, Ice Spice said working on the film held special meaning for her. She grew up watching SpongeBob SquarePants and bonding with friends over its jokes, memes, and iconic moments. When she received the offer to be part of the movie, she accepted without hesitation due to her nostalgia and love for the franchise.
