Jennifer Aniston recently talked about her two-decade battle with infertility and why she never decided to adopt in spite of social pressures and expectations. Speaking on the Armchair Expert podcast and in latest interviews, she discussed the reasons why being a parent through adoption was not in her future while also addressing years of quiet, rumours, and emotional suffering.
The Silent Battle: Years of Fertility Struggles
Jennifer Aniston revealed that for about 20 years she quietly battled infertility, undergoing through several IVF cycles and doing "everything possible" to conceive. She claimed in her interview with the Armchair Expert podcast that because she seldom ever talked about her health issues in public, people were unaware of her whole tale.

She remembered being burdened by tabloid stories that dubbed her a "workaholic" or "selfish" only because she didn't have kids. Even though she contemplated the possibility of becoming a mother in her partnerships, Aniston admitted that these feelings frequently used to "pass within three seconds." In these reflections, she also expressed regret about not freezing her eggs earlier, and said there was a painful moment when one accepts that "the ship has sailed."
Why Adoption Was Never Her Answer?
Over the years, Aniston has received countless suggestions from others, including, "Why not adopt?" However, it was evident from her response that she did not wish to pursue adoption. "I want my own DNA in a little person," she said, adding, "That's the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I've wanted it."
She clarified that this preference sprang from her own desire for a biological connection rather than from a rejection of adoption in general. "It's incredibly emotional, especially in the moment when they say that's it," Aniston added, describing the emotional challenges that arise when medical options reach a limit. Motherhood "just wasn't in the plan" for her, she continued, but she now finds peace in acknowledging that fact.

Aniston also talked openly about how she has struggled with the public perception of her life decisions. She claimed that although the many years of gossip and criticism were painful she has now come to a place where she can accept her journey and no longer wonder or hope.
She underlined that personal hardships shouldn't be used as newsworthy material because "they didn’t know my story…that's nobody's business."
Aniston acknowledged that she has no regrets and is now content with her life as it is, despite her sadness and emotional burden over what might have been. She continues her work (for instance, The Morning Show), and remains open about her journey, serving as a powerful reminder of empathy and respect in conversations about reproduction, choice, and identity.
