More on Jennifer Lopez's 'Kiss of the Spider Woman'

The 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' traces its roots back to Manuel Puig's 1976 novel and its Tony Award–winning Broadway musical adaptation. This new version brings cinematic flair and a modern lens while honouring the original material.

Lopez not only acts in the film but also serves as an executive producer, partnering with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon through their Artists Equity production company.

Early reactions from critics out of Sundance singled out Jennifer Lopez for delivering a magnetic performance, describing her role as a career highlight and noting that she commands the screen with presence and elegance.

This potential award breakthrough comes after years of recognition. Jennifer Lopez has earned Golden Globe nominations for 'Selena' (1997) and 'Hustlers' (2019), the latter also bringing her nods from the Screen Actors Guild and Independent Spirit Awards. Despite heavy Oscar buzz at the time, a nomination eluded her.

In her 2022 Netflix documentary 'Halftime,' Jennifer Lopez admitted that she once tied her hopes too closely to industry accolades but eventually reframed her outlook. She explained that her goal has always been to tell powerful stories, connect with audiences, and create meaningful change through her work.

At the Sundance premiere of 'Kiss of the Spider Woman,' Lopez became emotional as she described how musicals inspired her career path from the beginning. Watching 'West Side Story' as a child, she dreamed of one day performing in a musical film. Nearly three decades into her career, she now considers this project the fulfilment of her lifelong dream.
