Jennifer Lopez is opening up about how her relationship with fame has evolved over the years and how she's learned to protect her sense of self amid constant public attention.

The actress and singer recently joined Gwyneth Paltrow, Emily Blunt, Tessa Thompson, Elle Fanning, and Sydney Sweeney for the Los Angeles Times The Envelope 2025 Oscar Actresses Roundtable. During the discussion, the group talked about how they handle criticism and personal scrutiny while staying focused on their work.

Sydney Sweeney shared that she views public commentary as background noise, explaining that once she's on set, everything else fades away and the work becomes what truly matters. Paltrow then turned the question to Lopez, inviting her to share her perspective.

How Jennifer Lopez Handles Scrutiny?

Lopez explained that throughout her career, she has often found herself at the centre of both praise and criticism. She said there have been times when people seemed to misunderstand her completely, only to shift their opinions later, sometimes back and forth. Dealing with that kind of attention, she admitted, can be challenging.

She shared that from a young age, she relied on self-belief to stay grounded. Lopez said she always reminded herself that she knew who she was, that she worked hard, and that she wouldn't be given opportunities if she didn't deserve them. That internal reassurance helped her stay steady, even during difficult moments.

Jennifer Lopez Praised Her Parents

Lopez credited her parents with helping her develop a strong sense of identity growing up. She explained that blocking out outside noise allows her to reflect at the end of the day and feel confident that she showed up as a good person, worked hard, and cared for her family. She said that mindset has consistently helped her navigate the ups and downs of fame. Lopez is a mother to 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme.

Tessa Thompson also weighed in, noting that separating one's true self from the public version of who people think you are is a healthy approach, even if finding that balance takes time.

Jennifer Lopez on Dealing With Fame

In a separate interview earlier this year, Lopez spoke honestly about the compromises that come with a high level of fame. She acknowledged that while her career has brought incredible opportunities, it has also required adjustments, especially when it comes to personal relationships.

She explained that maintaining a private life in the public eye has been difficult and that her personal relationships have sometimes suffered as a result. Over time, Lopez said she realised that certain habits had to change in order to build healthier connections.

Despite the challenges, Lopez emphasised her gratitude for her career, her fans, and the opportunities she continues to receive. She added that while fame brings many rewards, learning how to navigate its trade-offs has been one of her greatest lessons.
