Many 'Star Wars' fans may not realise that Jabba the Hutt has a fully grown son, and surprisingly, neither did Jeremy Allen White before he was cast to voice him.
'The Bear' and 'Iron Claw' star is lending his voice to Rotta the Hutt in Jon Favreau's upcoming theatrical film, 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' a big-screen continuation of the hit Disney+ series led by Pedro Pascal. White admitted that he had no prior knowledge of the character's existence before being approached for the role, making the experience both unexpected and exciting for him.
Jeremy Allen White's Connection to 'Star Wars'
White's involvement in the project began through a personal connection with director Jon Favreau. After expressing his long-standing admiration for Favreau’s work during a casual meeting, the two stayed in touch, which eventually led to a conversation about joining the 'Star Wars' universe. Favreau ultimately offered Jeremy Allen White the role of Rotta, introducing him to the oversized slug character and his surprising legacy within the franchise.

Although White had never done voice acting before, he embraced the challenge. He recorded his lines during a few sessions roughly a year ago and explained that his voice performance was altered further in post-production to match the character. Because of this processing, he believes audiences may not immediately recognise his voice in the final version.
Beyond the excitement of joining such an iconic franchise, White also saw the project as a meaningful personal milestone. Since much of his previous work has been geared toward adults, he appreciated the opportunity to take part in a family-friendly film that his daughters can eventually watch and enjoy.
Rotta the Hutt in 'Star Wars'
Rotta the Hutt was first introduced as an infant in the 2008 animated film 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars,' where Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano rescued him. The character later made a brief appearance in the animated series as well. However, 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' will mark his first appearance as a fully grown adult Hutt.

Early glimpses from the trailer suggest that Rotta's adult design is quite different from his father's, featuring a more muscular and imposing look compared to Jabba’s sluggish form seen in 'Return of the Jedi.'
'The Mandalorian and Grogu' is set to hit theatres on 22nd May 2026, and is already generating strong buzz among both longtime 'Star Wars' fans and general audiences.
