Wrestling and Hollywood have long crossed paths, but only a few WWE stars have successfully leapt into mainstream acting. Among the most notable success stories is John Cena, who has become a fan favourite not just in the ring but on the big screen. Cena, who is well-known for his action skills and comedic timing, is now aiming for a completely different genre: horror.
John Cena’s Evolving Hollywood Career
John Cena's transition to Hollywood began in the early 2000s, when WWE pushed him as both their top wrestler and the face of their film division. His first big-screen effort, 'The Marine', was a standard action flick that failed to leave a lasting impact. But his breakthrough came in 2015, when he surprised audiences with a hilarious performance in 'Trainwreck'. This opened the door to a variety of roles, including standout appearances in 'Blockers', 'Barbie', and 'Ricky Stanicky'.

The actor’s willingness to take risks and fully commit to every role has earned him credibility and versatility. Whether he’s donning a superhero costume in Peacemaker or walking nude onstage at the Oscars for a laugh, John Cena proves he’s game for anything, making horror a perfect next step.
Why John Cena Is Ready for Horror?
John Cena has stated how excited he is to enter the horror genre. While speaking at Fan Expo Philadelphia, he said he’d be eager to play either the villain or a victim—he just wants to be part of a horror film. He made it clear that he’s open to any role, as long as he gets the opportunity to be involved.
And horror wouldn’t be new territory for WWE alumni. From Jesse Ventura in 'Predator' to Kane in 'See No Evil' and CM Punk in 'Girl on the Third Floor', wrestlers have often been cast in horror roles. Given Cena’s dedication to his craft and his recent character shift in WWE, he may be better suited than most.

A Scream King in the Making?
As horror continues to evolve, there’s room for a fresh face—especially one with Cena’s range and physicality. He’s already proven he can be both fearsome and funny, heartfelt and hard-edged. Whether battling supernatural forces or becoming one himself, John Cena has the potential to follow in the footsteps of legends like Bruce Campbell or Patrick Wilson.
With a second season of 'Peacemaker' on the horizon and a growing hunger for darker roles, now is the perfect time for Cena to dive into horror. He’s already conquered wrestling and comedy—maybe it’s time to crown him a scream king.
