Kate Hudson will be honoured with the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation’s esteemed Pioneer of the Year award, placing her among a select group of female actors to receive the accolade.
She will receive the award at the foundation’s annual dinner, scheduled for 8 October at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. For more than 75 years, the Pioneer of the Year award has celebrated members of the film industry whose charitable and community-focused contributions have been particularly impactful.
Lisa Bunnell, president of the foundation and head of distribution at Focus Features, said Hudson’s influence extended beyond her work in cinema, citing her dedication to philanthropy and social causes as a source of inspiration for audiences. She added that Hudson’s efforts encouraged people to engage with and uplift their communities.
Hudson will soon appear alongside Hugh Jackman in Focus Features’ upcoming musical drama ‘Song Sung Blue’, directed by Craig Brewer. Based on a true story, the film follows two struggling musicians who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. The film is slated for a nationwide release on Christmas Day.
In addition to her film work, Hudson released her debut album ‘Glorious’ in 2024 and currently stars in the Netflix series ‘Running Point’, which she also executive produces. The series has been picked up for a second season.

She first gained critical acclaim for her role in Cameron Crowe’s ‘Almost Famous’, which earned her a Golden Globe, an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and nods from BAFTA and the Broadcast Film Critics Association. Her film credits also include ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’, ‘Bride Wars’, ‘Fool’s Gold’, and ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’.
Outside of acting, Hudson serves on the board of directors for The Hawn Foundation’s MindUp programme, which promotes mental health in education. She also supports the United Nations World Food Programme, Baby2Baby, and Operation Smile.
Hudson co-founded the lifestyle brand Fabletics and the wellness company INBLOOM, and is also a New York Times bestselling author.
Honouring Trailblazers and Supporting Film Industry Workers
Last year’s recipient, filmmaker Greta Gerwig, was only the second female director to receive the award, following Elizabeth Banks—both of whom also have acting backgrounds.
Named in honour of entertainer and humanitarian Will Rogers, the foundation operates three major programmes: Brave Beginnings, the Will Rogers Institute, and the Pioneers Assistance Fund. Proceeds from the annual dinner will support the fund, which offers financial aid and counselling to individuals working in the film distribution and exhibition sectors.
