During a recent LifeTimes Tour stop in San Francisco, Katy Perry had a scary moment when a midair prop malfunctioned as she performed her hit song 'Roar.' The incident took place at the Chase Centre, where the pop icon was dramatically seated on a giant butterfly prop suspended above the crowd.

As she sang, the butterfly unexpectedly tipped, throwing Katy Perry off balance and almost sending her tumbling.
Fans captured the moment on video, showing Katy Perry visibly startled as she clutched the prop for stability. She paused mid-song, looked up at the suspension cables, and then scanned the audience below. Despite the scare, she signalled to the crowd that she was okay and resumed the performance with professionalism, picking up the chorus of 'Roar' as the butterfly began to move again.

Footage from the concert quickly went viral across social media platforms, showing the pop star’s composed response amid the unexpected technical failure.

Katy Perry later reacted to the moment on Instagram Stories, posting a blurry close-up image of her face mid-mishap with the caption, “Good Night San Fran,” hinting at the emotional rollercoaster of the evening.

Katy Perry Has Faced Performance Mishaps Earlier

This isn’t the first time the singer has encountered challenges during her LifeTimes Tour. Just weeks earlier, while performing in Australia, Perry experienced a similar issue when a metallic sphere she was riding unexpectedly tilted during lift-off. She held onto attached cables to regain her balance as the structure swung midair before the stage crew brought it safely down.

The string of technical hiccups highlights the risks involved in Perry’s high-concept, visually ambitious stage shows. Yet the Grammy-nominated artist continues to push the envelope with her performances, blending spectacle with storytelling.

Katy Perry launched the LifeTimes Tour in Mexico City on 23rd April in support of her new album '143'. The global tour is scheduled to hit Seattle on 21st July, followed by stops across Canada, Europe, and South America, concluding in December.

Despite the onstage challenges, Perry’s commitment to delivering a memorable live experience remains unwavering — a true testament to her resilience as a performer.
