Lady Gaga is back in Nevermore—and she's leading the dance of the dead. 'The Dead Dance,' a thrilling new single for Wednesday Season 2, Part 2, was released by the pop icon on 3rd September. Tim Burton's eerie music video accompanies Gaga's most recent release, which combines her trademark theatrical flare with supernatural charm—perfect for the Halloween season.
Gaga's Ghostly Cameo & Eerie Elegance
In Episode 6 of Wednesday Season 2, Part 2, Lady Gaga will be making an unexpected appearance as Rosaline Rotwood, a renowned former instructor at Nevermore Academy. Gaga's ghostly presence adds mystery and foreshadowing to the show's haunting hallways amid demonic mayhem and a dangerous body swap spell. Setting the tone for a strong, gothic pop moment woven into the show's dramatic fabric, the new song, 'The Dead Dance,' debuts during a dramatic dance sequence in Episode 7.

Shot on Mexico's creepy Island of the Dolls, the music video is a distinctly Burtonian vision, unfolding in a graveyard filled with porcelain dolls and ominous shadows. Gaga dances with jerky, zombie grace around animated dolls and masked creatures in a visual feast of black-and-white transitioning into color while wearing Victorian-inspired clothing and full cracked porcelain makeup. The performance, which was choreographed by Parris Goebel, was hailed as "absolute cinema" in the accompanying commentary, which also lauded the video's morbid craftsmanship and eerie glamour.

The Reveal and Release
At the Wednesday "Graveyard Gala" hosted by Netflix and Spotify in New York, Lady Gaga stunned fans by showcasing 'The Dead Dance' behind elaborate coffin displays, perfectly capturing the eerie theatricality of the film. On 3rd September, the song was formally published digitally and on venues such as the 'Mayhem' album reissue.
Along with dropping the new song and video, Gaga also shared a deluxe edition of her 2025 album 'Mayhem' on 3rd September, adding 'The Dead Dance' and two previously-released tracks — 'Kill for Love' and 'Can't Stop the High'—to the album on streaming services. Prior to the deluxe drop, the two bonus tracks were only previously available on specialty editions of album. This coincided with the premiere of Wednesday Season 2, Part 2.

The track's lyrics, which feature pulsing synths and disco-influenced beats, reflect post-breakup roughness and comeback. Similar like Wednesday's personal path through hardship, Gaga transforms sadness into energy by singing about dancing through suffering and rediscovering love.
With 'The Dead Dance,' Lady Gaga intertwines her artistry with Wednesday's shadowy world—offering a cinematic thrill ride, a musical rally cry, and a character cameo that leaves an unforgettable mark. As Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 streams now, Gaga's contribution delivers just the right mix of spooky, stylish, and soulful.
