Renowned actress Robin Wright, who starred in 'House of Cards,' 'Forrest Gump,' and 'The Princess Bride,' revealed why she left the United States and moved to England in an intimate interview with The Sunday Times. At the age of 59, Wright openly called American life a "s---show," blaming her departure on the country's deafening noise, unrelenting competitiveness, and uncompromising speed.

Wright, who is now living with her lover, architect Henry Smith, in a peaceful English beach villa, claims that she at last feels free and at home.

Why Britain Felt Like Freedom?

Wright vividly depicted a life dominated by stress, traffic, and frantic multitasking in order to show her intense disgust with the United States. "People are really nice. Regarding England, she stated, "They're alive." They're not in the car in traffic, panicked on a phone call, eating a sandwich. That's most of America." In sharp contrast, she has found a place where presence and generosity take the place of performance and hustling.

She found what she had long craved in the gentler rhythms of English life—no bustle, no expansive houses, just peace and connection. After years of unrelenting effort, she remarked, "It's liberating to be done."

Wright has discovered happiness and company in her relationship with British architect Henry Smith, whom she hilariously recalls meeting in a pub after a disagreement about dog food, in addition to her newfound serenity. "Who the f‑‑‑ are you?" was the question they exchanged, and it led to a deep bond that has anchored her in unexpected ways. Now, she wakes to the chirping of birds rather than construction noises, and appreciates being "seen and loved for who I am." As she approaches her 60s, Wright hopes to have finally gotten past accepting "60 percent" of what she formerly believed she deserved and to live a life full of travel, emotional clarity, and lasting relationships.
