Disney’s live-action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ maintained its strong momentum at the North American box office, securing the top spot for the third consecutive weekend. The film brought in an estimated $32.5 million from 4,185 cinemas, after crossing the $300 million mark on Thursday. As of Sunday, the global total stood at approximately $772.6 million, including $335.8 million in domestic earnings and $436.8 million internationally.
Meanwhile, ‘Ballerina’—the first spin-off from the ‘John Wick’ franchise—debuted in second place with a comparatively modest $25 million from 3,409 locations. This opening marked the lowest of any film in the franchise since the original ‘John Wick’ premiered in 2014. Ana de Armas stars in the title role, with Keanu Reeves reprising his character in a supporting capacity.
The film had previously been projected to open to at least $35 million. Just weeks ago, early tracking suggested a strong debut, but forecasts were gradually lowered to around $30 million as the release approached. Despite the underwhelming start, ‘Ballerina’ received a positive A– CinemaScore and high audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes (94%) and PostTrak, suggesting potential for long-term success at the box office.

Lionsgate, which produces the franchise alongside Thunder Road Films and 87Eleven Entertainment, had hoped for an opening closer to the $30.4 million debut of ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ in 2017. Although expectations were tempered due to the film’s spin-off status, the final numbers still fell short of internal projections. According to PostTrak, the film drew a male-skewed audience, making up 63% of the turnout. The $90 million production budget was partially offset by international sales.
Set during the events of ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’, ‘Ballerina’ follows Eve Macarro (played by de Armas) as she undergoes assassin training within the Ruska Roma. The cast also includes Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane and Reeves. Directed by Len Wiseman, the film features a screenplay by Shay Hatten and is inspired by characters originally created by Derek Kolstad.
‘Ballerina’ faces stiff competition in the action genre, particularly from ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’. Now in its third weekend, the Tom Cruise-led film secured third place with $15 million from 3,456 theatres, pushing its domestic total to $149.2 million. Internationally, it earned an additional $40.7 million, bringing its global total to $450.4 million.
Elsewhere at the box office, Sony’s ‘Karate Kid: Legends’ faced a steep 57% decline in its second weekend, earning $8.7 million and bringing its domestic total to $35.4 million.
New Line’s ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ took the fifth spot with $6.5 million, lifting its domestic total to $123.6 million after four weeks.

It is expected to earn $6.3 million over the weekend, reaching a 10-day total of $7 million after its limited debut the week prior, where it scored the year’s highest per-theatre average at $95,000.
A24’s horror release ‘Bring Her Back’ landed in seventh place with $3.5 million in its second weekend, pushing its domestic total to $14.1 million. GKIDS’ anime title ‘Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye’ followed closely behind with $3.1 million from 2,435 venues.
