Netflix has secured exclusive global rights to adapt the iconic board game 'Catan' into multiple film and television projects. The wide-ranging deal with Asmodee Entertainment includes both scripted and unscripted content, spanning live-action films, animated series, and other TV projects. The agreement was negotiated by CAA and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson, and Christopher on behalf of Asmodee and Catan GmbH.

Based on Klaus Teuber's 1995 classic 'The Settlers of Catan,' the upcoming adaptations will bring the fictional island of Catan to life. Fans can expect richly imagined narratives that highlight the strategic challenges of resource management, shifting alliances, and territorial expansion that made the game a global phenomenon.

The new projects will be produced by Darren Kyman from Asmodee, Pete Fenlon from Catan Studio, and Guido and Benjamin Teuber from the Teuber family, with Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment also attached as producer.

The Asmodee CEO emphasised the significance of bringing the game to a wider audience, noting that board gaming has become an integral part of pop culture and entertainment worldwide. 'Catan' Adds to Netflix's Growing Portfolio

The Teuber family emphasised that Klaus Teuber originally envisioned 'Catan' as a way to connect people through trading, building, and settling together. The partnership with Netflix marks a new chapter for the franchise, aiming to expand its influence beyond the gaming table and inspire global storytelling.

This adaptation adds to Netflix's growing portfolio of game-based content, joining other popular projects such as 'Arcane,' 'Castlevania,' 'Exploding Kittens,' and upcoming series based on 'Assassin's Creed,' 'Monopoly,' and 'Gears of War.'
