Orlando Bloom has revealed that his iconic role as Will Turner in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ almost didn’t happen—because he initially thought the concept sounded absurd.
In a recent interview with L’Officiel, the British actor shared that when his agent first mentioned Disney was planning to create a film inspired by a theme park ride, he was sceptical. At the time, the idea of basing a big-budget movie on an amusement attraction seemed far-fetched to him.
While filming Ned Kelly in Australia in 2003, Orlando Bloom crossed paths with actor Geoffrey Rush, who would go on to portray the cunning pirate Hector Barbossa in the same franchise. Rush played a crucial role in persuading Bloom to give the project a chance. Orlando Bloom even joked that Rush believes he deserves a cut of the success for encouraging him to sign on.

Orlando Bloom's Experience
Orlando Bloom also discussed the relationship between his character and Johnny Depp's iconic portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow as he reflected on the experience. He pointed out that despite their differences, both characters have a core of courage and unpredictable nature that gives the movie vitality and power. He emphasised that the trilogy's emotional anchor was the bond between Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley.
