Jack Black and Paul Rudd have officially teamed up for Sony Pictures' bold reimagining of 'Anaconda.' The first trailer, released on 17th September, introduces a fresh comedic twist on the classic 1997 snake-horror film.

The new version is directed by Tom Gormican and brings together an ensemble cast including Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Selton Mello, and Daniela Melchior. It follows in the footsteps of the original blockbuster that starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Owen Wilson, Jon Voight, and Eric Stoltz.

What is new 'Anaconda' About?

In this reboot, Black plays Doug and Rudd stars as Griff—lifelong best friends who grew up obsessed with the cult classic 'Anaconda.' Their lifelong dream of remaking the film takes an unexpected turn when, during production deep in the Amazon, they encounter a real monstrous snake. What begins as a midlife passion project quickly spirals into a battle for survival, blending outrageous comedy with action-packed thrills.

Earlier this year, Sony teased the reboot in a playful promotional video featuring Black and Rudd joking about the project. The pair hinted at exactly what fans could expect: plenty of laughs, over-the-top action, and, of course, one very dangerous anaconda.

The upcoming ‘Anaconda’ release adds a new layer of humour to the original story, setting it apart as both a parody and a tribute to the cult classic. With holiday season timing, the film is positioned as one of the year's biggest comedy-action spectacles.

'Anaconda' slithers into theatres on 25th December, 2025.
