Robert Pattinson has admitted that transitioning from eccentric, brooding, or wacky characters to more ordinary roles isn't easy. The 39-year-old actor discussed this challenge with Icon magazine while promoting his new film with Jennifer Lawrence, 'Die My Love.'
Robert Pattinson explained that after years of portraying unconventional and intense characters, stepping into the shoes of a "normal" person feels surprisingly difficult.
'Die My Love,' which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May, centres on Lawrence's character, Grace, and Pattinson's Jackson as they spend time together in a remote Montana home. The story explores Grace's struggles with her mental health, with scenes alternating between tender moments and escalating tension, including erratic behaviour and screaming matches. The film's synopsis notes that Grace, a writer and young mother, gradually descends into madness, leaving Jackson increasingly concerned and helpless.

Robert Pattinson's Character Transition in 'Die My Love'
This role represents a shift for Pattinson, contrasting sharply with his recent performances in films like 'Mickey 17,' a science-fiction adventure in which he plays a man who repeatedly has his body and memories reprinted after death, and 'The Batman' (2022), where he portrayed a dark, brooding Bruce Wayne.
While filming 'Die My Love,' Robert Pattinson also found improvising dance scenes with Lawrence to be challenging. Unlike his co-star and director Lynne Ramsey, who approaches such moments with ease, Pattinson initially struggled with spontaneous movement on camera, humorously fearing he might have a "mental breakdown" without choreography.

Since 2020, Robert Pattinson has appeared in only six films, including voice work for the English dub of 'The Boy and the Heron' (2023). He has several upcoming projects, including Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey,' a movie titled 'The Drama' with Zendaya, and a sequel to 'The Batman,' expected to film in 2026.
Reflecting on his career and workload, Robert Pattinson acknowledged that reaching his 30s brought a sense of urgency, realising he couldn’t wait for opportunities to come to him and needed to actively pursue new projects.
'Die My Love' marks another step in Pattinson's evolving career, highlighting his ability to navigate complex emotional terrain while tackling the unique challenge of playing more "normal" characters after years of portraying the extraordinary.
