Russell Crowe is finding rhythm and release not only on screen but also on stage. The Oscar-winning actor, who premiered his latest film 'Nuremberg' at AFI Fest on 24th October, shared that being the frontman of his rock band, Indoor Garden Party, offers him a creative balance that acting alone can’t provide.
Russell Crowe Explains His Love For Music
Crowe, 61, described performing music as his personal form of theatre. Having experienced traditional and musical theatre throughout his career, he considers live rock performances his most natural outlet—one where he feels completely at ease. Compared to the structured nature of filmmaking, where every moment is dictated by schedules and creative collaboration with directors, producers, and co-stars, Russell Crowe said that performing music gives him a sense of freedom and spontaneity.

With his band Indoor Garden Party, which has released the albums 'The Musical' (2017) and 'Prose and Cons' (2024), the experience is entirely unpredictable. Each concert, according to the actor, feels like a new adventure driven by the energy of the audience and the chemistry among the band members.
For Russell Crowe, that unpredictability is what keeps live performance thrilling—it's an exchange of emotion and excitement that changes every time he steps on stage.
Russell Crowe's 'Nuremberg'
This contrast stands out even more against his recent work in 'Nuremberg,' a historical courtroom drama directed by James Vanderbilt. In the film, Russell Crowe portrays Hermann Göring, the infamous Nazi leader who faced trial for war crimes after World War II. The story, based on true events, explores the Allies' efforts to hold high-ranking members of the Nazi regime accountable through the Nuremberg Trials.

Russell Crowe explained that the character of Göring relied heavily on charm, intelligence, and ego as tools of manipulation—qualities that made him both dangerous and complex to play. The actor emphasised how Göring's belief in his ability to control the narrative ultimately led to his downfall.
Rami Malek, who stars alongside Crowe as psychiatrist Douglas Kelley, described the dynamic between their characters as an intense psychological duel. He admired Crowe's ability to channel both the charisma and menace that defined Göring, making their scenes together deeply engaging.
Following its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, 'Nuremberg' will open in theatres on 7th November. The film also stars Leo Woodall, John Slattery, Colin Hanks, and Mark O'Brien.

As for Russell Crowe, he continues to balance his love for music and film. Between his emotionally charged movie roles and the raw energy of Indoor Garden Party's live performances, the actor says he finds both creative comfort and artistic fulfilment—whether he's commanding a movie set or a rock stage.
