Scarlett Johansson is in active discussions to join the cast of 'The Batman Part II', PEOPLE has confirmed, marking a potential move from her Marvel legacy into the DC universe. The sequel, led once again by Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, follows the events of the 2022 Matt Reeves—directed film. Industry reports indicate that Johansson is in the final stages of negotiation, though her character has not yet been revealed.

Meanwhile, Zoë Kravitz—who played Selina Kyle/Catwoman in 'The Batman'—is reportedly not expected to return for the follow-up, according to Variety.

Scarlett Johansson's Marvel Association

Johansson, seen recently at high-profile events throughout 2025, has long been associated with comic book films thanks to her decade-long run as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She first appeared in 'Iron Man 2' in 2010 and capped off her tenure with 2021's 'Black Widow,' a film she also helped produce. Beyond her superhero work, Johansson is a two-time Oscar nominee for Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit.

Plot details for 'The Batman Part II' remain tightly guarded. The project, in development since the first film's successful release, is being written by Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. Warner Bros. has confirmed that filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with a theatrical release planned for 1st October 2027—more than five years after the franchise's debut instalment.

Pattinson's version of 'Batman' exists in a separate continuity from James Gunn's rebooted DC universe. The first film also featured Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, with Farrell later reprising the role in HBO Max's 'The Penguin' series.
