Oscar-winning British actor Daniel Kaluuya is working on an animated spin-off that focuses on the character, Spider-Punk, from 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse'. The film will explore the story of Hobie Brown, a rebellious Spider-Man variant from an alternate universe, who quickly became a fan favourite following his debut in the Spider-Verse sequel.
Daniel Kaluuya, acclaimed for his performances in 'Get Out' and 'Black Panther', originally voiced Spider-Punk in the 2023 animated blockbuster. The character is rooted in the Marvel Comics universe and was first introduced in 2015. In the movie adaptation, Spider-Punk hails from Camden – a deliberate choice that aligns with Kaluuya’s own London upbringing.

More About Daniel Kaluuya's Venture
According to Entertainment Weekly, Daniel Kaluuya is not only developing the project but is also co-writing the script. He’s working alongside screenwriter Ajoná Alexus Singh, best known for crafting the script of the upcoming thriller 'Primetime', starring Robert Pattinson. While plot details are still being kept under wraps, it’s expected that Kaluuya will return to voice the title character.
The announcement of the Spider-Punk spin-off arrives amid ongoing delays for 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse', the third and final instalment in the animated trilogy. Initially scheduled for release in March 2024, the film was postponed due to production halts during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Sony eventually took it off their release schedule completely.

Earlier this year, Sony confirmed that 'Beyond the Spider-Verse' would finally debut on 4th June, 2027. However, a recent update from The Hollywood Reporter stated that the release has been pushed back slightly to 25th June, 2027, though it will remain a summer 2027 title.
In other news, Daniel Kaluuya was recently honoured with a statue in London’s Leicester Square. The statue, inspired by his iconic performance in 'Get Out', was installed as part of the Scenes in the Square trail. Daniel Kaluuya received the honour after getting 20% of the votes in a poll of 5,000 UK movie fans, who were asked which actor they’d like to see celebrated at the iconic film site.
